Yup, we're moving once again. Luckily, we’re not moving across the Atlantic this time, just a 2.5 hour drive from Lisbon down to sunny Algarve. I know I know...why would I move twice in one pregnancy? Simple answer: my husband got his dream job where he can work from home and we decided it's the perfect time to move before the baby arrives so we can be closer to family. Let's face it, I'm probably going to need all the help I can get once that baby comes because it takes a village to raise a child.
My husband has a huge family whom I adore based in a small town called Olhão near Faro. Most people that I've told in Lisbon that we're moving there give us a confused look as to why we'd leave such a popular city to go to a "boring" one. That's just it though! Lisbon is too popular, too busy, and we want to raise a family in a more family friendly environment. Don't get me wrong. Though I had many great adventures in Lisbon and really enjoyed seeing all the beautiful sights Lisbon has to offer, it was great while it lasted, but it's time to part ways and keep it as a vacation place whenever we want to come visit. Had I been single or not expecting a child, I would probably want to stay longer than 5 months, but I'm loving the more serene places these days and ready to live in a cozier place. We've lived the busy San Francisco bay area life with endless traffic, but we came here to get away from that and now we're off to where we're supposed to be.
Olhão is anything but boring. It may be small and it may be filled with more retired seniors and foreigners, but there's surprisingly lots to do there and it's a short drive away from popular towns and beaches. We can take a 20-30 min ferry ride to 3 different beautiful islands, there are so many delicious restaurants to choose from, beautiful ocean views with pretty sunsets, huge markets with fresh seafood, fruits, and veggies, and everyone is just so friendly & calm. Oddly enough, I've made more friends in Olhão not living there than I have living in Lisbon. Who would've thought?! There’s also no hustle and bustle lifestyle in Algarve. We no longer have to deal with traffic, lack of parking, crazy amounts of pollution in the air when cars drive by, oh and hills! I'm so excited I don't have to climb any hills anymore. Sure it's good exercise but that's what home exercises and gyms are for am I right?!
I knew this day would come soon. I put it out in the universe and believed I would move to Olhão to be closer to family and the law of attraction worked. I always felt I was meant to live near the ocean & now we get to do that and be around family, while doing what we love work wise. I’m so excited to embark on this wonderful new adventure and raise my little one in a safe & friendly environment. I can focus on being a full time mom while working on my blog more and managing our local rental properties. I may even start tutoring English and teaching yoga on the side, but for now, my family and our homes come first. I’m on cloud 9 from all of this and it’s only the beginning, but I felt I should share the good news, because I'm feeling so very grateful. 🙏🏼
