We often hear the saying “The grass is greener on the other side.” It’s human nature to think life could be better if it were different. “If I worked somewhere else, I’d be happier.” “If I were with someone else, life would be easier.” “I wish I looked like that person and had what they had.” Those are some of the things we say when we think something else would be better in our lives, but what if you just took care of what you have right now? Wouldn’t it just be more simple than to complain and throw away the hard work you’ve put into something? That’s what watering your own grass is all about.
For example, I know many couples who have gone through some hard times in their relationships and easily want to give up. Uh, hi, I’ve been there! We all have! Sure it may seem like the best way out but let me tell you, it’s not. I’m not telling you to stay in an unhealthy relationship. By all means, if there’s abuse in the relationship, it’s time to leave. If the relationship seems to be one sided and you’ve explained how important it is to both put work and it’s still not happening, then you may need to reconsider your relationship and talk it out.
Unfortunately, we live in a time where people always want to look for the next best thing with endless options around. Sometimes couples get in constant fights so they go off and make stupid decisions out of frustration instead of resolving their problems at home. Sometimes people share their relationship issues to a “friend” of the opposite sex and suddenly that friend seems like the perfect fit when it’s really just an illusion, because guess what! You’ll run into some bumps in the road with that other person as well, because again, every relationship goes through hardships.
My two cents: If it’s going south, go seek professional counseling. You might find that you and your partner are great together and just need to work on how you communicate with each other.
Have an issue at work? Talk to your boss or HR about it instead of complaining to your peers or other people spreading negativity and making you look bad. Don’t just quit every job you have because something isn’t going the way YOU want it to. Be grateful you have a job. I don’t like to be the bearer of bad news, but if you seem to always find an issue with every single job and no one else is complaining, the issue could be within yourself. Try to figure out why you’re always unhappy.
If you think that girl is prettier than you or that guy is in better shape than you or has more wealth than you, focus on what you DO have. Be thankful you’re alive and grateful for what you have. You have no idea what that other person could be going through. People who portray their lives to be perfect on social media don’t always have a perfect life, so stop comparing yourself to Instagram models. They can inspire you, but don’t let them make you think they’re better than you. Not for one second! Focus on being the best version of yourself, not of somebody else.
No one is perfect and nothing is perfect. Everything takes work, so instead of focusing on what seems perfect somewhere else, focus on what you already have to make it all work again. Remember everything turns dry from time to time, but it’s up to you to give it life again.
